Can I send digital dental impressions for any type of case, or only crowns?

You can send digital impressions for nearly every case type we fabricate, including single crowns, bridges, implant restorations, partial denture frameworks, and full-arch cases. Some removable cases still benefit from analog impressions or a hybrid analog-digital workflow, particularly when border molding and tissue capture are critical. What scanner is best for a practice that is just getting started with digital dentistry?

This depends on the case mix in your practice, your budget, and how integrated you want your scanner to be with other systems in your office. Every major scanner on the market today produces excellent clinical results in capable hands. How accurate are digital impressions compared to traditional PVS impressions?

For single-unit and short-span cases, modern intraoral scanners produce digital impressions that are equal to or more accurate than traditional PVS, with the added advantage of immediate visual feedback at the chair. For full-arch cases, accuracy depends on scan strategy and scanner capability, and the gap between digital and analog continues to close as scanner technology improves. For most of the work a general practice sends to a lab, digital is the more accurate workflow when scanned well.

Do you still accept traditional PVS impressions if our office is not yet digital?

Yes. We accept traditional PVS impressions and pour and scan them in our lab to bring them into the digital design workflow. Many of our long-time client practices use a mix of digital and analog impressions depending on the case, and we are happy to support both.
